On "Reality"

Ultimate reality is not subject to verbalism. For example, questions like, “Can an object exist and not be real; can a thing be real and not exist” constitute made up of words and are trickery into which one can fall.
According to a Hindu text the world is a dream in the mind of Vishnu. According to Sir Arthur Eddington the world is a thought in the mind of the creator.
Space & time have no objective reality but are conditions for certain consciousnesses including our own.
An object is real because of our awareness of it. Because one has a particular consciousness, certain things are real to him.
If it hurts, this is proof that it is real.
Problem: What is the present moment?
Our senses continually modify the true nature of things.
It is important to see things as they are. It does not matter if this disagrees with Gautama Buddha as long as it is true from experience.
In what way does the view “nothing exists” help this person?
People discuss great things, yet they do not understand how a hand moves.
Each of us is so much consciousness, mental color and material.
The rose and thought of a rose are made up of the same basic elements.
Any truth, including the ultimate truth, must be found by the individual himself.
We have free choice within a certain limit: freedom to move to the left or right, as does a dog on a leash.
It is from willing that one has words and deeds. All things are not strictly determined … if this were so, what would be the point of meeting here? Some things, however, are determined.
Absolute determinism is wrong; free will is absolutely wrong.
The only place you have total freedom of will is when dreaming.
Any act with an extreme will will result in opposition. Extreme effort … opposition. If you try to be good you will come across opposition. On the other hand, if you seek desirous objects/experiences, you will be accepted by people.
It is not necessary to die to understand the process operative in death.
Nothing that is compounded, or conditioned can escape death, decay, ending.
“All lovers young and old must come to dust.” A terrifying line [from Shakespeare], the more you contemplate it.
A former student has generously provided these 'quotes' from notes taken in G.V. Desani's classes and in private conversations.
